Aluminum can shredder is a mechanical device specifically designed to shred aluminum cans (such as beverage cans and food cans) and is considered a metal recycling pre-processing device. Its core function is to break whole aluminum cans into small pieces or granules (typically 5-20mm in size) through mechanical shearing and extrusion. This facilitates subsequent recycling processes like sorting and smelting, significantly improving the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of aluminum resource recovery.
Operating Principle
The aluminum can shredder's operating principle is based on a combination of shearing and extrusion. The specific process is as follows:
1. Feeding Stage: Aluminum cans are fed into the shredder's feed port via a conveyor belt or manually. The shredder is typically equipped with safety features (such as an emergency stop button and anti-jamming design) to ensure safe operation.
2. Crushing Stage:
• Shearing Blade: The shredder is equipped with a rotating rotor blade and a fixed static blade (mostly made of high-hardness alloy steel). Once the aluminum can enters the crushing chamber, the high-speed rotation of the rotor blade creates a shear force against the static blade, tearing the can's metal shell apart.
• Extrusion Crushing: Some models are equipped with rollers or impact plates, which simultaneously apply pressure to the aluminum can while shearing, further damaging its structural integrity, particularly at the can's seams (such as the "ring weld" on soda cans) and the raised bottom portion.
3. Discharge Stage: Crushed aluminum blocks are discharged through a screen (adjustable aperture). Larger particles that do not meet the required particle size remain in the crushing chamber and continue to be crushed until they meet the required particle size.

Aluminum Can Recycling Process (Including Shredder)
The complete aluminum can recycling process typically includes the following steps, with the shredder being the core of the pre-processing phase:
1. Collection and Transportation:
• Collection of discarded aluminum cans through recycling stations, community sorting, or corporate partnerships;
• Compressed and packaged (to reduce volume) for transportation to a recycling plant.
2. Pretreatment (Shredder Application):
• Unpacking: Remove the compressed packaging used for transportation;
• Shredding: The aluminum cans enter the shredder and are broken into small pieces (5-20mm), while removing some residual liquid (such as beverages) and impurities;
• Magnetic Separation: The shredded mixture passes through a magnetic separator to separate iron impurities (such as pull tabs and can rivets).
3. Fine Sorting:
• Eddy Current Sorting: Utilizes aluminum's conductivity to generate repulsive forces through an alternating magnetic field to separate non-metallic impurities (such as plastic labels and coating fragments);
• Manual/Optical Sorting (Optional): Performs secondary screening for special impurities (such as mixed metals).
